:: So, How'd you Make Out? ::
"Dan-E! Stop that!"

"What?"

"Just look over here, ok?"

(Smiling) "Sure."

"Oh my God! Dan-E!!! Stop it!"

There’s more to that but let me back up a little, since it’s not what you think. Or maybe it is...

Couple of people from our quarter had birthdays last weekend and we decided to celebrate it Sunday night. It started off innocuously enough at the patio behind their apartment and we enjoyed a nice sunset along with a few bottles of beer.

It got a little rowdy once we got to a restaurant called Taverna Opa. It's a Greek restaurant with something of a party atmosphere in that dancing on the tables before and after your meal is served is not only allowed, but highly encouraged. It's the only place I know where the servers get into it by tossing napkins around like confetti.

So we get there, hang out at the bar for a while waiting for our table to get ready (not easy for a party of 30) and naturally, people either start doing shots or ordering martinis, or both. I take this time to get to acquainted with a couple of the b-day girl's friends, one in particular who starts flirting with me. Partly because of my charm, partly because she’s already a little toasted.

We get shown to our tables and immediately, b-day boy and b-day girl gets up on the table get up on the table and start dancing. Our group being what it is, it's not long before they're joined by few of the girls in our group. I had a front-and-center view of everything and witnesses as well as photos to corroborate this.

People eventually remember that we're at a restaurant that serves food and settle down once dinner arrives. Before this, my only real exposure to Greek food was Daphne's cafe which isn't quite the Taco Bell of Mexican food but the analogy is appropriate. Someone did the ordering for us and everything was excellent. I'll try to expand on this later. The girl who was flirting with me earlier sat next to me during our meal and while we didn't talk much, there's a lot of contact involved... mostly from her since I was starving and focused more on feeding (which says more about me than anything about her).

So after dinner is over, there's more table more drinking, and eventually we migrate back to the bar. It's there that I start up a conversation with... I can't remember her name so I'll call her M since that's what I think her name started with. So M and I start chatting away, more contact, more flirting until a girl named Morgan, a fellow student who I'm good friends with, sees us and decides to snap a photo. M notices and says something along the lines of "if you wanna give her an interesting photo by kissing me right when she's about to take it, feel free."

Being as it she’s a little buzzed and I'm, well, not I figure what the hell and move in. (If an attractive blonde asks you to kiss her, you don't say no.) And to my surprise and for reasons that I can't comprehend Morgan, instead of pressing the button, voices objections towards this.

Morgan: "Dan-E! Stop that!"

Me: "What?"

Morg: "You guys just look over here, ok?"

M: "That was amazing. You should do that again."

Me: (Smiling) "Sure."

Morg: "Oh my God! Dan-E!!! Stop it!"

So after about four attempts she eventually takes the photo but I’m left wondering, why was Morgan trying to stop me? We weren’t the only one in our group making out, it wasn’t jealously on her part since she’s taken, and she knew I was sober... I really don’t know.

So yeah, we weren't the only ones making out at the bar that night and after our all too brief session we take a breather... I can't believe I just typed that... and chat with other people and in my case, get another beer.

I gotta tell ya, even without the making out, it was fun evening.

:: I REALLY Need a Vacation ::
It's almost 1:00am and I'm still up working on my class projects. It's odd how productive I can be at this time of night. It's amazing how I'm sometimes able to function on 3-5 hours of sleep a night and still function. It's actually quite amazing that I'm not in a zombie-like state right now.

I'm really tired and yet... I can't sleep. Not just because I have too much stuff to do, I'm actually too tired to fall asleep. What's that all about?

:: Drink Tea ::
Most of you know I go to a school for advertising but I'm in now way about to pimp a product for any personal financial gain. But seriously, Tazo's Chai Tea is some seriously good stuff. It's a full-flavored tea with a little bit of a kick to it. Not only that but it contains a decent caffiene kick to it and it's a great substitute when I'm sick of coffee. I highly recommend it.

By the way, at this very moment at the Starbucks that I mentioned in a previous post, I can help but listen in on the most vacuous, insipid, and banal conversation I've heard in a while. It still entertains me the bulls*** guys will spew to try to sound erudite around a women and women generally have a pretty good bulls*** detector but in this case... this chick is buying everything hook, line, and sinker.

So help me God, someone tell me that it isn't really supposed to be that easy.

:: I Need a Vacation ::
I forgot just how busy one gets when working part time while going to school full time and this quarter has been a pretty blunt reminder. I also forgot that I can get by with only about five hours of sleep a night and still maintain a modicum of motor skills the next day, although it seems the last couple of days, my body has been trying to tell me that I need some serious ZZZs. It's not so much that instead of falling asleep I crash. But rather, this morning, when my alarm went off, I literallly had to crawl out of bed to get to the alarm across my room. That and the fact that it was blaring for a good four minutes before I actually heard it and only because the alarm next to my head finally went off. Yes I have to two alarms.

And yet... in a weird, twisted way, there's a (clearly masochistic) side of me that's enjoying this. I've always been the type to push myself in one way or another but at this moment, I'm kinda missing the days where I would push myself by seeing how many pieces of sushi I can eating at a buffet.

:: Where You Know Everyone's Name ::
I haven't really had a place to go to where I've been a "regular" since the aforementioned brew.net coffeehouse back in my early college days but since moving here, I have several. What's funny is that it's a happy accident resulting from my lack of a TV and Internet at home. I should have known that lacking such amenities would force me out of my apartment and, well, meet people.

One place I use to frequent to watch sports, get food, and do homework was this place called the Irish House. Dark, smoky, with a grimy feel but they served great bar food (wings, burgers, hot dogs, onion rings) and a great beer selection. Happy hour deals were totally awesome. The only thing this place was missing was sawdust on the floor. I'd catch the occasional nationally televised Lakers game and do homework during commercial breaks and halftime. I still surprise myself at how productive I can be in front of a TV, drinking a beer, watching a game. Unfortunately, this place is closed now.

While I have web access at school, they're closed most of the weekend and I still need to do stuff. In which case I just mosey on over to Taste Bakery, (a block away from my place) where the sandwiches are in fact, tasty as well as overpriced but they make up for it by offering free wireless access (unlike say, Starbucks where they charge you a ridiculous $29.95 a month). This place has good coffee as well as some of the best muffins I've ever had anywhere.

Across the street is a fairly new bar called Dewey's. Dark, not as smoky and pretty clean and employed almost entirely by women wearing black. They have six small flatscreens mounted behind the bar and one huge plasma TV that I'm planning on stealing one of these days. They just opened their kitchen and while the food isn't quite as good as that from the Irish House, it's cheaper and still pretty decent. They have a pretty good beer selection though for some inexplicable reason, they still haven't installed taps. It's offset by the fact that all the bartenders are women. Wait, I already mentioned that.

I've been to all these places enough to know when it gets slow, which is when I prefer it anyway. Believe it or not I actually do a lot of stuff for school there and I do appreciate distractions being kept to a minimum.

About that whole "meet people" thing; I think I'm on a first name basis with almost everyone that works at these places. Theresa and Todd worked at the Irish House; Sandra, Vera (I think... she’s new), Alex, and Will at Taste; Jackie, Kelly, Sophie, Michelle, and Kathy at Dewey's. And I'm forgetting someone.

If I knew their last names, that'd just be weird.
