:: Back in Miami ::
I'm back! I just got in about four hours ago and let me tell you, this trip was an absolute BLAST. I made a rather half-hearted attempt at keeping notes along the trip so I could blog about it later but the memories of everything I saw and experienced is so vividly embossed into my brain that I'm sure writing stuff up won't be a problem.

Anyway, I'm going to go start writing up stuff about the road trip. Expect periodic updates the next few days.

:: I'm DONE ::
Ok, school's out, everything is DONE!!! I'm now gonna go watch my Lakers get their asses handed to them, after which I'll probably chug a few beers in celebration. Or not.

Ok seriously, I'm taking off on my big Ballpark Tour of America Road Trip in a couple of days so my blogging, if any, will be sparse. I am going to keep a journal of everyting so I'll update everything in a couple of weeks or so.

So in case I don't blog for the next two weeks (likely) take care!

:: So. How am I Doing? ::
Imagine if you will, for a moment, what's it's like to be a rat in an old, large house. You're crawling around, looking for food and you finally spot a piece of cheese. You haven't eaten in a while and all you see a little slice of sustenance. You approach it, you lean in for a bite and... you get whacked on the head with a metal bar, effectively erasing all lingering thoughts on hunger.

That's pretty much how the last two weeks were like for me (not in the sense that I'm a rat or anything, though I am constantly looking for food). Just a few moments away from completion and I get (figuratively) whacked in the head. At least I'm still alive though I'd imagine the headaches are similar. My metal bar to the head came in form of my laptop fizzing out on me literally two hours before my last presentation. Now imagine this scenario: you've had a hell of a week getting everything done and all you have to do is get the stuff printed. And the moment you hit "apple-P" the screen starts to whig out. My first thought?

"This can't be good."

So I try to restart it, nothing. I try the reset keys. Nothing. I ask a couple of people around if they might know what's wrong. The short answer: faulty the logic board. Apparently it's something in the laptop that sends the signal from the computer to the screen and if it goes wrong, everything goes wrong. Mac had a massive recall last year about this but I wasn't concerned since I was under the assumption that they remedied the error by the time I ordered my laptop. Oops.

Forunately, the partners I worked with already had copies of our work printed out for me so I had something to present but you can imagine my frustration at the situation. You'd think I'd be freaking out but, no, not really. A friend of mine even said to me "I'm shocked you're not freaking out right now." I'm not really the type to freak out over anything. But though I may have seemed calm on the outside, inside I was entertaining thoughts on hurling my laptop out of the second floor window, after which I'd throw myself out.

How am I now? Well, everything else that needed to be finished I did at the school's lab and thanks to the generosity of some friends I was able to help get the final project due last night turned in. My laptop is being repaired and I'm, well, relaxed.

If this happens again next quarter, I just might freak out.

:: So it went well... ::
I should be working on my projects but I've at this for way too long and I need a break.

My dad's visit went without a hitch, other than putting huge dent into my schedule and now I'm even more crunched for time. On the plus side, I now (finally) own a TV and have some comfort in knowing that I can spend some time with my dad without getting into a heated arguement.

This was his "see-how-my-boys-are-doing" mini-vacation, since he went straight to Bah-ston after leaving here. His timing couldn't have been worse (story of my life) but I appreciate why he did it. He just wanted to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Of course, that would require some interaction between us and as expected our conversations went best when we talked about anything besides me.

He did inquire about plans for my future but it wasn't the type of grilling that I expected. He even asked briefly about any dating prospects and his desire for grandchildren, to which I just replied that I have other stuff to think about.

All this is probably making by pops sound like less than a good guy but it's hardly the case. I'd be the first to admit that I've played my part in our past inability to get along. I've written at length about this stuff recently in my journal and none of it is something I'm going to share with too many people any time soon. Our relationship is... complicated.

Anyway, back to work.

:: So Help Me... ::
My dad is in town. I should probably be happy about this except that it's studio week (our equivalent to finals week) so his timing could not have been worse... and well... it's my dad. He's not a bad guy but we're not the closest and our conversations at best, are awkward. Given the previous levels of acrimony between us, it's an improvement. Still, I just had dinner with the guy and I found myself unable to open up... I gave him only cursory details about my new life here - school, work, what's gonna happen after I graduate, a brief tour of the city - and found myself dreading how to answer if he asked questions of a more personal nature.

Speaking of studio week, i think I've had a grand total of ten hours of sleep THIS WEEK since Monday. Thanks to the fact that pops decided to fly in to Ft. Lauderdale at 5:20 this morning, the only sleep I've had last night was the shuttle ride up to the airport. My day of reprieve is next next Tuesday but as long as I can somehow make it to next Thursday without say, killing someone or something, or myself I'll be happy.

This is how sick I am: there's STILL a part of me that's enjoying this.
